Muslim Media Hub had the pleasure of teaching a group of bright high school students how to step behind the camera and discover what it means to tell stories that reflect who they are and where they come from.
Through the Youth Pocket Film Program, and with the help of our skilled instructor Mateen Manek, participants learned the fundamentals of filmmaking, including story development, camera operation, lighting, and sound, all in an environment that fosters creativity and collaboration and embraces their Muslim identity.
For many, this is their first introduction to film as both an art form and a career path. Supported by Muslim mentors and professionals, they’re gaining the technical skills and confidence to share their perspectives with the world.
This is what it looks like when the next generation of Muslim storytellers begins to take shape.
Special thanks to the City of Brampton for making this program possible.
