Watch The First Muslims in Canada, the opening film in our new documentary series, Muslims in Canada: Stories from the Archive.
This short documentary explores the lives of some of the earliest Muslim settlers in Canada. Through archival research and historical storytelling, the film examines who these pioneers were, where they came from, how they lived, and the challenges they faced as they built their lives in a society where few people knew anything about Islam or Muslims.
Their stories offer a fascinating glimpse into a little-known chapter of Canadian history and highlight the enduring contributions of Muslims to the country's social and cultural fabric.
Directed by Sabreen El Awad and Tamer Abdalla, The First Muslims in Canada is part of a short documentary series created through Muslim Media Hub's Short Film Lab, an initiative dedicated to supporting and developing emerging Muslim storytellers.
Watch the film now on YouTube and discover the remarkable stories of Canada's earliest Muslim communities.
