Meet Mateen Manek, filmmaker, writer, and founder of Studio Rooh, a production company rooted in stories of culture, community, and identity. Mateen brings a thoughtful, grounded approach to filmmaking that emphasizes care, clarity, and connection.

At the Short Film Lab, he’ll guide participants through the art of directing, from crafting strong interview questions and building trust with subjects, to shooting with purpose and planning for the edit. He’ll also help students think through the ethical choices that come with telling real stories.

His goal? To help emerging filmmakers create work that feels honest, intentional, and impactful.
