A great film deserves to be seen! At our 2024 Short Film Lab, we were lucky to have two incredible filmmakers, Rime El Jadidi and Yazmeen Kanji, share their expertise on the importance of film distribution. Their session offered invaluable insights into why thinking about distribution from the very start is essential for making sure a film reaches the right audience and creates a lasting impact.
Rime and Yazmeen guided participants through the process of identifying the perfect platforms for their films, understanding their target audience, and crafting an effective marketing strategy. From social media promotions to designing trailers and posters, their tips focused on maximizing a film’s reach. They also emphasized the value of early festival submissions and gathering feedback to refine the film before it reaches a wider audience.
Their key message was clear: it’s not just about creating a great film; it’s about ensuring that film gets seen by the people who will be moved by it.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, Charles Street Video, and the Documentary Organization of Canada for their generous support of this program. Their contributions are helping our filmmakers succeed, not just in creating but in sharing their work with the world.
