Ben Wong’s Cinematography Workshop

We were thrilled to have Ben Wong, an incredibly passionate cinematographer, join us as one of the key instructors at the 2024 Muslim Media Hub Short Film Lab. His love for the art of filmmaking was infectious, making his workshop not just informative but truly inspiring for everyone involved.

During the session, Ben walked our filmmakers through the different types of cameras and lenses, explaining how each one serves a unique purpose in capturing a film's vision. He also broke down the fundamentals of camera settings like ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, and showed how adjusting these elements can dramatically impact the look and feel of a shot.

What really stood out was Ben’s ability to teach the power of lighting in setting the mood for a scene. He gave practical tips on how filmmakers can use light to create different emotions and demonstrated how composition and framing can change the way a story is told. His hands-on approach made these complex topics feel accessible, even to those just starting their filmmaking journey.

Ben’s workshop was invaluable, providing participants with the technical skills they need to push their film projects to the next level. His insights into the craft of cinematography not only expanded their understanding but also inspired them to think more creatively about how they tell stories through the camera lens.

We’re grateful to Ben for sharing his time, knowledge, and passion with our filmmakers, and we can’t wait to see how they apply what they’ve learned to their upcoming projects.
